Finding His Way

Bozeman Chiropractor, Dr. Michael Jones

Dr. Michael Jones

Dr. Jones had never heard of chiropractic before. He’d never been to a chiropractor and had no idea what they did. He was in college, studying automotive technology and struggling to keep his grades up.

A friend who was a school counselor suggested that he consider changing his career path and urged him to take interest surveys to find out what might interest him. Two separate surveys pointed him toward physical therapy (PT). But he didn’t know anything about that, either.

He changed his major from automotive to health science, which was supposed to be more difficult, and it was the first time he ever earned straight A’s…it just made sense.

From Physical Therapy to Chiropractic

After enrolling in a basic physical therapy health science course, Dr. Jones spent time in the hospital, the lab, the PT department, and radiology. It was all interesting – in fact, Dr. Jones helped one of his PT patients learn to walk again after a debilitating stroke.

About the same time, his niece was having horrible headaches and started seeing a chiropractor who was able to resolve the headache pain. He applied and was accepted to PT school but the legislature stopped funding for the school and it was closed. After returning to the family farm for ten years, he was accepted at Western States Chiropractic College. From then on, “it just clicked.”

Family Man

While studying at Western States Chiropractic College, Dr. Jones met Dr. Purser. At the time, he was married with five children. After completing his chiropractic degree he returned to Washington State where he opened Soap Lake Chiropractic in 1990. Several years later, Dr. Jones’s wife passed away and he sold his practice and relocated to Montana. In Montana, he reunited with Dr. Purser, they were married, and he joined her as a professional partner right here at Bridger Chiropractic Clinic.

Today he keeps busy with his five children and his 17 grandchildren and is heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America. Dr. Jones is also an active volunteer for Community Cafe and Family Promise here in Bozeman.

It’s All About the Transformation

Dr. Jones says his favorite part about chiropractic is seeing the transformations that take place in patients and seeing them regain function.

“I love to find a muscle weakness the patient didn’t even know was there and be able to show them immediately that it’s responded. To see the astonished look on their faces when they feel it go weak and then strong again after an adjustment… it’s wonderful and it happens every day.”

After Hours

Outside of work, Dr. Jones keeps busy with his church and the Boy Scouts of America. He also enjoys many outdoor activities, including cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, mountain biking, and gardening.

Dr. Jones is a member of both the Montana Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Association.
